Jeeves & Wooster Television

There have been a couple of attempts to translate Wodehouse into television, including a few adaptations of the Jeeves stories. None, however, was more successful at both in capturing the spirit and language of the master than the adaptations by Clive Exton for Granada Television.

While purists (understandably) argue that there was too much mucking about with story lines, or that Stephen Fry was too young, one cannot disagree with the fact that the performances were outstanding, the production lavish, the music fun, and the writing captured much of the language that makes Wodehouse such a joy to read. The series has introduced countless new fans to the work of P.G. Wodehouse, and remains a classic.
